Genesis EV: Mike Song, the global head of Genesis, said that Genesis’ luxury division will keep gasoline engine, Hybrid, and extended- range EV (EREV) powertrain for as long as customers buy cars equipped with these types of powertrain.
Genesis Motor Adjusts EV Strategy
Genesis Motor North America’s COO Claudia Marquez said that approximately a year ago, the Korean automaker realized some changes in the market trends. When Marquez joined the company 3 years ago, it was to have all new vehicle launches in the U.S. market electric by 2025, and only fully electric cars by 2030. But now it is evident that locations, chief among them being the United States, take considerably more time in adopting EVS than anticipated.
Neators are programmed to replace some of the hybrids in the Genesis range, a scenario that was not anticipated earlier, Marquez disclosed to Motor Trend interview. This transformation has been as a result of customer pressure. The hybrids will be assembled at a plant that is still under construction in Savannah, Georgia, which Volkswagen plans to have produce up to 3,00,000 cars annually.
Genesis Investigates EREVs as a Pathway to Complete Electrification
Marquez also pointed out that the automaker has not determined when it will release Genesis hybrids. According to Genesis, the company intends to introduce hybrids, EREVs and not plug-in hybrids. EREVs, or extended-range electric vehicles with a gasoline engine serving as a range extender, are good for big vehicles and could be used in the GV60 and G90 sedans.
There are not many EREVs on the market today, but the example of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger demonstrates the benefits: EV-only range and additional real-world capability for towing or hauling. Ford also backs the technology. Every second car that rolls off the production line for Genesis will have a hybrid variant: though not every Genesis model, Ash Corson. EREVs are aimed at cars such as the GV70 and the GV80 by 2027, meanwhile, plug-in hybrids will only be offered in Hyundai.
Genesis Accelerates Innovation
Genesis leverages Hyundai’s speed in decision-making processes and fast implementation, which means that company can quickly advance on new powertrains. Marquez spoke at Dubai Motor Show stating that entering motorsports was unveiled in three days and the plan involves building the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar in 16 months for WEC 2026 and IMSA 2027.
Hybrid development started immediately and the fi x proposal was to release them as the new or ‘next generation’ models. That being said, a launch in 2025 is not realistic, while 2026 is more likely to be the case.
