Mercedes AMG Debuts With PureSpeed Speedster; Produces 315 km/h Speed Demon And Many Other Features

The Mercedes-AMG has finally unveiled the much anticipated production ready PureSpeed speedster; the new creation is essentially the launch car for its select Mythos limited series line. Originally unveiled as a near-Series Production prototype in May 2024, the Production version of the car does not deviate much of the concept. The company has now revealed the mechanics and powertrain details after having set a production target of 250 units in the global market.

Bold Design and 2-Seater Cabin Feature

The PureSpeed is developed from the high-performance AMG SL 63 4Matic but has a significantly similar basic form to that of the road car but the bodywork has been changed for a much more aggressive and streamlined form. Most of them featured shark-nose design with a new grille, an enlarged central vent with AMG lettering, larger side vents, and more vent on the bonnet. The interior goes from a 2+2 to a true two-seater with an extra-long rear deck, rear buttresses that incorporate the rollover hoops, which underline the car’s speedster character.

Modeled from the SL but featuring a PureSpeed, the car is roofless, does away with the A-pillar and windscreen and replaces them with wind deflectors and an F1 Halo safety. It also has a clip-on detachable weather cover to protect the cabin if the car is parked under the open sky.

Luxurious Interior with Enhanced Audio System

The car interior is inspired by the AMG SL, including the portrait-style tilting centre console screen, carbon fiber and leather trim, and a fixed IWC Schaffhausen chronograph. Every model has the rider helmets and another one to put on by the person controlling the device as well as the headphone for streaming calls and music. A 1170 W Burmester 3D sound system is also included in the standard features list.

In design it borrows the GT 63 Pro’s active flaps to enhance downforce, AMG adaptive suspension with a semi-active roll control function, and a front axle lift system for passage at velocities such as those attained on a speed bump. Braking is provided by composite disc brakes with six-piston front and single piston rear calipers and rear axle steer to enhance the manoeuvrability.

Powerful Performance & Exclusive Specifications

The PureSpeed uses the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as the SL 63, rating at 577 bhp and 800 Nm of torque. It is paired with 9-speed automated diesel transmission and fully variable all-wheel drive. Mercedes says the speedster can match the SL 63 in the 0-100 km/h sprints at 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h.
