New Hyundai Creta EV: The Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India, described a plan to reveal the Creta EV, an electric variant of the company’s midsize SUV at the next year’s Bharat Mobility Show 2025 in New Delhi. However, it also revealed that the Creta EV will be based on the new model which was unveiled in January 2024, sharing most of its design mantra as the latest version, but also have charging ports and other trademark features of its EV line. These are the front grille is tweaked and made to be close off, the front and the rear bumpers are restyled and the new aero optimized alloy wheels are clearly different.
Newfound competitors to the Creta EV include the recently unveiled Mahindra BE 6E which might be rebranded as BE 6, the Tata Curvv EV, the MG ZS EV and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming pure electric SUV the e-Vitara to also be launched at the Bharat Mobility Show .
Compared to such models, Hyundai has chosen to follow a more modest approach by making Creta EV look almost identical to the conventional Creta model. But it will be differentiated with some features such as closed grille, revamped front and rear bumpsters, new generation of wheels and, of course, specific EV logos.
Interior Features of New Creta EV
Inside, the Creta EV will have a three-spoke steering wheel that is found in the latest Hyundai Kona EV, A drive selector located at the side of the steering column and new center console with cup holders and controls for cooler and auto hold, electronically parked and 360-degree camera. Some parts, such as the HVAC controls, will borrow the overhauled design of the facelifted Hyundai Alcazar.
Configuration with two screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster will be retained, which can be updated for software and feature enhancements with tangible buttons and dials for more convenient use.
Battery and Range of Hyundai Creta EV
The Creta EV will be available in a 45kWh battery variant, like the Tata Curvv EV but higher than the battery capacity of MG ZS EV (50.3kWh) and Maruti eVX range of 49-61kWh. The 2020 Hyundai Kona’s new front-wheel-drive electric single motor kicks out a healthy 138hp and 255Nm, on par with the latest generation Kona EV. Hyundai is expect to produce around 24,000 units per annum and the company is likely to price the Creta EV attractively since it is gearing for launch next month.
Creta EV To Boost Hyundai Sales
Though on balance, the overall launch of Creta EV could be another positive for Hyundai Motor India which is already the 2nd largest car maker in India while the overall sales of EVs declined. Hyundai moved 20 Ioniq 5 only in November 2024 while it was able to move as many as 166 Ioniq 5 in the same month the prior year. When the Kona EV was withdrawn mid-year, the total sales of the brand up to November, 2024 were 889 electric car compared to 1,480 electric cars from this January to November of the year. It only sold 1,608 of the vehicle in CY2023 and presently has only the Ioniq 5 in the Indian market.
The introduction of the Creta EV globally is expected to push the overall Creta sales even up and make it the second most selling SUV in India with 129,365 (up 19% YoY) units of Creta sold during April- November 2024 rankings behind Tata Punch only. The new generation car Creta has good market response as it started in January and midsize SUVs or B-SUVs are getting quite popular plus adding an electric version to Creta, if Hyundai put all ICE and EV lineup creta it can easily fight for no. 1 SUV in FY 2025.
