According with current plans of Tata Motors, the company is about to release a brand new Tata Blackbird SUV that is expected to dramatically redefine the automotive industry in India.
The current Tata Blackbird project is not what it started as in 2019 as the carmaker intended to counter Hyundai Creta with it. Initially, Tata Motors developed a plan to build the SUV on a Chinese platform, though, changing the geopolitical environments and ‘Make in India’ move forced the company to design the SUV from scratch. The Tata Blackbird will come equipped with choices of engines such as 1.5 T petrol, with 160 bhp and 250 Nm torque, 1.5 L diesel with 115 bhp and 300 Nm torque, and the Tata Blackbird electric version with more than 400 km range of ‘transmission offered will be Manual 6-Speed and DCT 7-Speed for ICE variant only but for EV they The Blackbird is said to deliver great performance, comfort and safety features with its underpinnings rooted on the Tata OMEGA platform that underpins the Harrier and Safari Models.

The Tata Blackbird will be available with three powertrains such as a 1.5L turbo petrol as 160 bhp/250 Nm, 1.5L turbo diesel as 115 bhp/300 Nm, and an electric version with a range of over 400 km. Transmission possibilities are 6 gears manual and 7 gears DCT for ICE versions, whereas for the EV, the brand will offer only a one-speed gearbox. This vehicle is based on the OMEGA architecture on which the Harrier and Safari are founded and therefore the Blackbird will provide impressive features regarding general performance, ride quality and safety.

The Tata Blackbird is to introduce new safety features to its holders such as a high strength steel body, up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold control and descent, ISOFIX mounts and TPMS. Tata has set its sights on a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating while continuing to manufacture many of the safest cars in India.
Pricing Datails To Know
Tata Motors plans to bring the Blackbird as a boss offering with a starting price of ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom) going up to ₹18 lakh. It will rival Honda WR-V, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and MG Astor. The Blackbird has a special design and due to the high level of quality as well as novelty Tata has the chances to succeed in this industry.
While Tata Motors has not clearly stated when the Blackbird will be officially launched but as per insiders it might be made available by second quarter of calendar 2025. To increase activity at the strategic Pune plant, the company first aims at churning out 7,000-8,000 vehicles per month, which is scalable in response to market conditions.
