Toyota has recently launched a completely new people mover vehicle model based on the Rangga Hilux Pickup. Known as Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV, this model is expected to hit the Indonesian market in the first quarter of next year.
Highlights Of Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV
In its sources, the SUV Hilux Rangga will appear as an Indonesian assembled car or LCV which stands for a locally produced vehicle for Indonesia. Prius was first introduced as a concept model some few months back; however, at the Indonesia Auto Expo, Toyota Indonesia confirmed that it would have slight modifications before going into production. The Hilux Rangga SUV is closely related to the pickup version with the IMV platform on which is based, and others models, such as the Crysta Innova and the Fortuner.
As the Hilux Rangga SUV’s bodyshell was designed by an aftermarket coachbuilder, the final version will be sold directly by Toyota. The model has typical sliding doors for the second and the third rows and has a three-row off-road vehicle with a 7Places for passengers. According to sources, variety of seating arrangements at a given point in time will be released in the market.
Lack of or absence of Luxury features does not come with the SUV but instead, it comes packed with features such as air conditioning, a touchscreen infotainment system, and front dual airbags. The earlier concept introduced LED headlamps, custom 16-inch alloy wheels and several other accessories but it is still not very clear which of these features will be included in the production model.
Design and Mechanical Details
The Hilux Rangga SUV continues with the basics ‘no-nonsense’ headlights forklift-type hood and comes with SUV-like ground clearance levels. It comes with similar mechanicals as the pickup offering RWD and engine choices: a 2.0 L naturally aspirated petrol or a 2.4 L turbo diesel, mated to either a 5-speed manual or an automatic. The exact dimensions of the Rangga pickup are unclear, but the one featured here has a 2,750mm wheelbase, which is the same as the Fortuner.
Despite the plan of not introducing the Hilux Rangga SUV in the country, Toyota is working on a brand new rugged SUV for India.
